A TRIDIMENSIONAL PERSPECTIVE ON BACKBENDS

with Jessica Puglie

Saturday, July 15th
1.30-4.30pm

In this workshop we will explore the movement of the spine from a tridimensional perspective, with an emphasis on back bending poses.

As in life everything that moves and interacts can be approached from a different angles and perspectives, nothing is flat or unidimensional, everything is connected and multidimensional.
The spine is an example of the representation of this concept.

Even the physical structure – made of vertebras, disks, ligaments and nerves reaches its full potential range of motion with the help of the muscles, fascia, shoulder structure, arms and even hips and legs, creating an integrated team on a circular tridimensional level. It is all connected.

Sometimes this organic motion can be interrupted by the interference of our mind in giving priority to the shape instead of the actions and feelings, interfering with the spontaneous simplicity of the intelligent intuition the body and us already have.

Is the intrusion of the mind and the infrequent use of back bends in everyday life perhaps one of the reasons why some of us find back bending very emotional? We will find out.

The 3 hours will start with some breathing exercises followed by a flowing warm-up, dynamic stretching with arch-curve motions and a variety of poses that wake up the multiple actions required in beck bending. We will have some fun playfully exploring optional inverted variations of these poses. This informative and experimental practice will finish with a short meditation and a restful savasana.

Join us in creating more expansive and easeful back bends.

Suitable for all levels.

THE ECOLOGY OF YOGA

with Lizzie Reumont

Sunday, July 16th
1.30-4.30pm

“Yoga is not for people who are interested in staying the same”
-David Life

All of life exists in delicate balance. There is a constant cycle of birth, life and death that involves a diverse complexity of relationship. When one species becomes too dominant, however, other species die off and the environment they live in also begins to break down. Yoga has it’s own ecologically diverse set of practices, of which asana is one part.

In the western world, however, the physical movement practice has largely taken over, and the other practices that are equally important have become diminished. Because of this, there are many people who practice asana that are capable of making shapes, revelling in their ‘yoga body’ that is strong and flexible on the outside, but on the inside, they stay the same. The same mental agitations, the same patterns in relationship, the same suffering.

This workshop will explore the pillars of the yoga practice that evoke change, including a rigorous Jivamukti asana practice, pranayama, meditation, mantra and discussion around cultivating intention. It is an invitation to transform one’s practice from a self-centred approach based on attachment to the body and mind, to a state of inter-being and awareness – a state of yoga.

Sunday, July 23rd
1.30-4.30pm

Want to gain a strong, lean and happier body? Then join Antonia in a 2 hour Pilates Boot Camp! The technique and high intensity of the exercises explored in this workshop will help you discover your own strength and understand the functionality of your body.

GONG BATH

with Leo Cosendai

Sunday,July 23rd
7-8.30pm

So much more than just an old musical instrument, the Gong produces harmonic and dissonent tones which give the individual the opportunity to experience altered states of consciousness, where the mind is totally aligned with the body. This helps one to burn up emotional history and karmic blockages.
From a physical point of view, a gong “bath” as we call it, is ideal for clearing nerve-endings and for re-establishing a healthy relationship between the parasympathetic (ruled by sound) and sympathetic nervous system (ruled by vision). The gong also enables the brain to become efficient in producing Theta and Delta waves, which are produced by the brain during deep sleep and trance-like states.

Before you get to hear the way of the gong, Leo will often lead you through a deep body awareness relaxation or a series of kriyas which focus on bringing the crown energies down to the very base of the spine. One can expect to experience re-youthing and re-programming during this one and a half hour practice.

Leo is a Prana Kriya Yoga teacher, sound healer, therapist, and a composer born in Switzerland in 1989. He has trained with Grand Gong master Don Conreaux and Yogi Ashokananda.

HIPS, KNEES, ANKLES, FEET - BIOMECHANICS INJURY AND REHABILITATION

with Tim Goullet

Sunday, July 30th
1.30-4.30

These structures are often viewed as structures which work independently from each other, especially by modern medicine.
They actually work together as an integrated whole, commonly known as a leg!
Yoga asanas provide an excellent example of this integration and can help with analysing why we may get injured. For example, how a hip problem can lead to a knee or ankle problem.

This workshop will cover the following –

Anatomy and biomechanics of the hip, knee, ankle and foot.

Common injuries to these areas and what can be done.

Asana analysis – what to look for. Be an injury detective!

Adapting asanas around injuries.

Rehabilitation exercises for these injuries.

Tim Goullet has created his own therapy system – Yogabodywork – a technique inspired by his encounters with Yoga and Thai massage and specifically designed for yoga practitioners. In 2005, Tim co-authored the book ‘Healing Yoga”. He has taught many workshops in yoga anatomy, adjustments and injury management in London and has assisted on many yoga retreats in Europe.

Suitable for experienced yoga practitioners and teaches, bodyworkers and fitness professionals.

LEARN TO HANDSTAND

with Sainaa Janchivdorj

Saturday, August 5th
1.30-4.30pm

The workshop will begin with a fairly intense warm up, including a lot of conditioning and flexibility drills specific to handstands. You will be given explanations of what to do with your body to get a perfectly straight handstand. Numerous exercises will be practiced to help you understand the shape of the posture, both on the floor and on your hands. You’ll also be working with a partner so you can learn how to spot and correct someone else’s technique.
This workshop will not be suitable for total beginners but as long as you’re used to holding weight in your arms (against the wall with good form for 30-60 seconds) you’ll be fine. You don’t need to have a perfect handstand – that’s what you are here to learn!

Sainaa trained as an elite gymnast, winning the national championship two years running, he retired from competitive gymnastics at age 18. For the next ten years he worked as a multi-skilled circus performer touring many world famous circuses.
In the early 2000s his career led him to teaching. It is likely that every leading handbalancer in the UK has been taught by Sainaa at some stage in their career. His typical student is either a circus performer or a yogi. Both types of students want to be flexible and love being upside down. The perfect handstand is the holy grail and most discover Sainaa’s techniques are the best route to getting there!

INTRODUCTION TO SHAMANISM AND BREATH WORK

with Kurikindi and Rebecca Dennis

Sunday, August 6th
1.30-4.30

This unique workshop will be combining two powerful healing methods. An opportunity to set intentions, let go of your deepest programmes, find space, purpose and make way for the next part of the process that we are all sharing at this time. An important part of this heart opening journey will support insight, flow, creativity and authentic connection to Source.

Kurikindi will be sharing his wisdom and messages from the Amazon and Rebecca Dennis will be leading you through a Transformational Breath session, a self healing technique that helps to clear restricted breathing patterns and let go of trapped emotions, trauma and blockages.

Kurikindi is an indigenous Amazonian shaman, born in the rainforest in Ecuador and comes from a long line of traditional intuitive Amazonian Shamans.

Since he was very young, Kurikindi has walked the path of a shaman. In his family there is no separation between every day life and shamanic life. Before he could even walk or talk he was immersed in the shamanic way of life. His family travelled long distances to other countries in South America to spend time with shamans from other cultures and nationalities to learn and share knowledge and experiences. Kurikindi had the unique opportunity to learn from, and work a long side both male and female shamans as both of his parents and both of his grandparents were shamans. This is a very unusual situation in the Amazon. His life changed dramatically when he was 12 years old. He had to save the life of a powerful and well known shaman, his father. After this and although still young, he was recognized as an adult shaman. Now at 45 years of age, still young by most shamanic standards, he finds himself here in the UK, ready to talk, to learn and to listen.

Rebecca Dennis is the founder of www.breathingtree.co.uk and a qualified Breath coach and workshop leader. She studied Transformational Breath with founder Judith Kravitz in Mexico and Miami and other influential trainers in Italy and in the UK. Her clients come with many various issues including stress, anxiety, addiction, abuse, depression, ME, respiratory problems, trauma, sleeping patterns, focus, lack of energy, physical problems and low self esteem. She is co-founder ofwww.inspirationspace.co.uk, a health and wellness collaboration of conscious connected breath work experiences with combined therapies. Rebecca is also a therapist for Sensual Healing Harmony who host retreats and workshops to support women through an immersion of self-discovery and life-long change.

DREAMS TO REALITY: HOLDING VISION FOR LOVE AND BEAUTY

with Leila Sadeghee

Saturday August 12th
2.30-5pm

Each one of us has a distinctive signature vision for our life and for the world. Yet we often allow this vision to become muddied or distorted, anchoring ourselves in someone else’s vision, or just defaulting to whatever we find ourselves surrounded by. But what is the nature of this vision? What would it mean if we held it clear and held it dear?

The capacity to hold vision is one of the key arts of living well, it is fundamental to the creation of reality as it unfolds, and it is a necessary movement in any shift in consciousness – individual or collective. In these dark and imperiled times, reclaiming our vision, and holding it clear and high is a great act of Love. Your vision is beautiful, and it is needed. How clear is it? How much space are you giving it? How aligned are your choices with it? And what tanks it? And when it’s tanked – how do you call it back and reclaim it?

This workshop provides a safe space to enter into your vision, to reclaim it if it has gotten lost, to re-calibrate to it if you have gotten side-tracked, and to update it’s terms to where you are now. We will practice a honeyed vinyasa flow to shift out of the frontal mind and access true vision. We will enjoy a ritual of love and beauty, and work out how to find our personal vision-holding power. Most of all, we will delight in the loving power of community – remembering the power that we share as a collective to awaken hearts and vision the kind of loving and beautiful reality that we truly care to create with our time here on Earth together.

Leila Sadeghee is a inspirational healer and yoga teacher with a passion for awakening, spiritual self-care, and supporting people to live lives of vision and power.

LEARN TO HANDSTAND

with Sainaa Janchivdorj

Friday, September 15th
2-5pm

THE SOUTH AND WEST WIND

with Esther Lim

Saturday, September 16th-Sunday, September 17th
1.30-4.30pm
Esther Is a senior Inka Shaman and Medicine Woman. She has been teaching yoga for over 30 years, having trained in Mysore, with David Swenson,Larry Shultz, Radha and Shiva Rae. She now resides near London, and teaching in and around London.

Day 1, South Wind, The Level of the Serpent

The archetype of Sachamama, our mother serpent, represents an instinctual creature with extraordinary senses. This is on the material level of perception – where everything is tangible, solid and difficult to change. When faced with problems, on the level of the serpent, we rely on our instinctual senses and don’t reflect more deeply on our problems. We are aware from our limbic brain but not conscious of our mental, creative or spiritual self.

Shamans learn to track on all of the four levels from which we engage the world – Serpent, Jaguar, humming Bird and Eagle. In recognising and owning your own trauma and wounds, you can turn them into sources of power. In this workshop we will work towards shedding the stories of our past, just like a snake sheds its skin.

Day 2, West Wind, Jaguar Medicine

The Way of the Luminous Warrior. Sankalpa, power of fearlessness

Of all our fears, the strongest fear is annihilation, even greater than our fear of death. The end of life scares us because we consider it a terminal experience. The ego will always fight for its existence, as it is terrified of being absorbed into something larger than itself. When we feel that we’re being stalked by death, we live in scarcity instead of abundance. In fact, we need to be fully present in the moment, the challenge is to shed your fear and embrace love.

This workshop will build on the four animal levels mentioned in the first workshop (Serpent, Jaguar, Humming Bird and Eagle). Looking at fear on each of these levels, working to release the fear and break the karmic cycle.

GONG BATH

with Leo Cosendai

Saturday, September 23rd

He has trained with Grand Gong master Don Conreaux and Yogi Ashokananda.

with Kirsty Gallagher

Saturday, September 24th
7-8.30pm
The New Moon brings with it growing energy, new beginnings and is the ideal time to set intentions, welcome new opportunities and delve into our deepest dreams and desires, which will be the main focus of this workshop.
Our workshop will begin with more information on how to work with the wisdom and energies of the new moon and an energising meditation to help us to open up to receive. We’ll take a little time to explore all of the things we would like to see happen in our lives and set set some intentions. Our intentions are like the seeds we plant, and then we need to add our creative energy to help them to grow, which is what we will do in our yoga practice. We’ll explore a flowing practice to help us to shine, to allow our inner creativity to expand, to delve into our inner strength and wisdom, to find the greatness and courage of our hearts and minds and to create the power, focus and self belief that we need to manifest our dreams and intentions.

LEGS TODAY, GONE TOMORROW

with Adam Husler

Sunday, October 1st
1.30-4.30pm

Yogis hate this and it may hurt …..we’re going to reign it in and move our legs with control and strength.
As modern yogis we often love to throw our legs around, take them as high as possible and generally follow the route of least resistance in our practice. This is great for making pretty shapes, but not necessarily the best thing for your body, especially in the long ter. In this workshop, our attention will be drawn to the concept of mobility: a combination of flexibility and strength, in a context where strength means control.

Through a controlled vinyasa practice, we’ll be exploring the anatomical subtleties of more traditional asana and brining in dynamic movements to find depth and strength around our legs and hips. You might be great a using your arms or a teacher to get your legs into ‘deep poses’, but how are you at moving your legs in to deep positions, solely with the muscles designed to move your legs? In this workshop you’ll find an answer to that and more. Then, post class, you’ll be glad Indaba has a lift.

To close our practice, we’ll be spending some time working deep in some static poses and then move through a gentle restorative practice, to prepare you for entry back in to the outside world.

Adam Husler (500hr RYT) delivers anatomically focused, non dogmatic, alignment based, vinyasa yoga teaching across London, internationally and on multiple online channels. Prepare to explore mobility, flexibility and strength through intelligently sequenced yoga classes, informed by his teaching from world leading teachers; Jason Crandell, Michael Stone and Cameron Shayne.

CONNECT YOUR THIRD EYE WORKSHOP

with Mutsumi Adachi

Friday, October 20th
2-5pm

Those who have experienced Mutsumi’s memory therapy are often surprised as to how she is able gather so much information in such a short time and cure her clients ailments by simply shifting their belief systems and self limitations?
In our modern world the greatest cultural obstacle is Separation.

During 400 years of human history, most of conventional science and the practice of Cartesian medicine infused into our belief systems that matter is composed of atoms & particles, all things are separate, our physical bodies are made of parts….Einstein’s E=MC2 is actually based on 3 uncertainties.

This deeply imbedded collective belief separates us from our innate wisdom aligned with the connections with mother earth & planetary energy. The knowledge that the ancients knew but long ignored.

We were pulling apart from our own existing healing ability.

From this 3 hour workshop you will learn from many interactive games:

What is Qi? What is Prana? Learn simple breathing exercises to open your third eye.
Learn Chinese Accupuntor points to open your heart magnetic field.
Practice body swing to connect your higher self. Realize your invisible force.
Understand the enteric body & morphogenic field between individual & group.
Experience collective awareness by mathematics & sacred geometry.
Experience Fibonacci no: detect & realize your trauma of life from young age or beyond birth.
Understand where is your blockage of life? What stopped you from enjoying happiness & abundance?
Appreciate the support of the group energy to break through self limitation.

TRAKATA MIRROR GAZING MEDITATION

with Leo Cosendai

Sunday, October 22nd
1.30-4.30pm

LEO is giving a special one off afternoon workshop for you to get to the roots of Dharana (concentration) and meditation through his favourite yoga practice, the transformative practice of Trataka (gazing at an external or internal object). “It is known to be performed in many ways but there is something about the act of gazing at one’s own face that genuinely takes it to the next level. It’s extremely potent.” LEO

It is therapeutic in depression, insomnia, allergy, anxiety, postural problems, poor concentration and memory.

“Trataka unlocks the inherent energy of the mind and channelises it to the dormant areas of the unconscious. Physiologically, trataka relieves eye ailments such as eye strain and headache, myopia, astigmatism and even early stages of cataract. The eyes become clear bright, able to see the reality beyond appearances.”

The practice will be followed by a gong bath.

*** please avoid eating up to 3 hours before.

*** come hydrated and wearing loose clothing

*** come with a new mirror (big enough so you can see your entire face and unused – that’s very important)

And a notepad to take notes of thoughts and realisations that come through during the workshop.

TWIST'N'LENGTHEN: BACK STRENGTH AND SPINE MOBILISING

with Adam Husler

Saturday, November 11th
1.30-4.30pm

When we backbend, we love to collapse in the lower back and squash the neck..because it makes us look like we’re going further. In twists, we love to spin the neck and throw the arm…because it makes us look like we’re going further. In this workshop we’re going to reign things in and begin to find evenness in the backbends, congruence in out twists, and strength in the muscles that are there to move us in these directions.

Instead of starting with contortion skills, we’ll start from the ground up, breaking down vinyasa and salutation technique, and you’l already begin using muscles you might not have felt before. The muscles will keep working as we continue to undulate through individual vertebrae, unlock ouriPhone hunched upper back and neck and begin to move more dynamically thorough the spine in a strong vinyasa context. Before we neutralise our spine in a well deserved vinyasa, we’ll have a look at some deeper static poses along with exploring some deeper backbends like inverted staff pose, king pigeon and full dancers.

Adam Husler (500hr RYT) delivers anatomically focused, non dogmatic, alignment based, vinyasa yoga teaching across London, internationally and on multiple online channels. A WEEKEND OF WORKSHOPS

with Carmen Aguilar

2018
Saturday, June 9th - Sunday, June 10th
1.30-4pm
Carmen Aguilar found yoga right after completing her university studies. A seemingly crazy choice at the time, she dropped everything and devoted all her energies to the study of this discipline. The deeper she got into it the more it fascinated her. During the first years she studied with every teacher she could find, traveling wherever was necessary, completed 5 different Teacher Trainings, and started to develop her daily practice. Devoting to it 3 hours, 7 days a week, she has been able to reach levels few practitioners share.
She has been teaching yoga for more than 19 years, developing her unique teaching style, cYoga, intended to make her students achieve their best both physically and mentally. In March 2010, she was inspired to open her own yoga studio (The Lab) in Chicago, where she resides today with her husband Moises.

HIP OPENERS, ARM BALANCES AND INVERSIONS
Saturday, June 9th 2018

Let’s spice up your inversion and arm balance practice. By combining hip flexibility with upper body control, we have the opportunity to aim for poses and transitions that were otherwise unattainable. We’ll build up equally our suppleness expertise to increase our strengthening one and vice versa. One set of skills will lean on the other so they’ll both improve considerably. Arm balances and inversions share a lot of common principles, body activation, upper body alignment, core/low back engagement… Improve your endurance, balance, learn better alignment, efficiently use your resources and let’s work on the ones that don’t come that easy. Come ready to do some funky arm balances as your hips and legs will take a number of shapes you might have never tried. Gain wider range as a result of that too. Detoxify, unlock, have fun and leave renovated as energy will run through your body more freely.

BACKBENDS, SCORPIANS AND SPLITS
Sunday, June 10th 2018

Not your average yoga class, this backbend one will dare to trade into waters you might not do on your own, feel intimidated, lost or simply have never thought of. After a thorough warm up and having covered other backbends, some time will be dedicated to study Scorpions, how to do them safely, properly so we can incorporate them in our personal practice. This class is for all levels and you don’t need an ‘advanced’ practice (whatever that means) to participate. You’ll need, however, an open mind, ready to try and willing to see what happens. Stiffness, or being able to work around our personal difficulties, is a big part of the learning process. You don’t want to miss out on that! Come and explore…
