Handstands / Inversions and Balancing
In this class the students will experience a delightful, holistic flow of asana – focused around Handstands, Inversions and balancing in general. Many tips and suggestions will be given as to how we can achieve new poses and refine techniques of existing poses. In addition to priceless advice on how to avoid and overcome injury.
This session is for intermediate to advanced practitioners.
You don't have to be able to hold an inversion in the middle of the room, but can use the wall if needed. This is a flow class and if they need a spot close to the wall, please arrive a little earlier to secure your space. Doug also suggests the use of props such as blocks, folded towels, and an extra mat.
The minimal practice with inversions is to get your head lower than your heart.
You do not need to achieve the final pose in any asana to practice the foundation and overall energetics of the pose.
Precautions and reasons not to practice inversions include, but are not limited to: floating retina, pre- and post-pregnancy, neck injury, and weak or fragile bones. Students just need to be mindful and apply modifications, both physically and mentally.
Saturday 1st March, 15:30 to 18:00
