Letting Go – A Restorative Yoga Practice with Joyce McMiken

Most of us have a tendency to seek out things we love, that we know give us pleasure
and to run from experiences which are painful for us. It makes perfect sense, right? But
according to the Yoga Sūtras of Patañjali, if we continually crave new pleasurable
experiences and feel anger or resistance to things which may cause us pain it’s known
as attachment (ragā) and aversion (dveṣa), two of the five impediments (kleśas), when
it comes to our yoga practice.

The weaving together of restorative yoga postures not only has a profound impact on
our physical and emotional health - improved digestion and sleep, decreased blood
pressure, heart and breathing rates – but it also takes us to a place where we can
simply let go, where we don’t need to hanker after or run away from something. It
allows us to be fully present and we can take the insights we glean through the practice
into everyday life. Beginning with a short discussion to introduce the work, Joyce will
lead you through a restorative asana practice, the session will include breathwork and
guided meditation.
